New Jersey is the 10th safest state in the nation for finding a digital date.

That’s according to an analyses by safewise, a home security company, and highspeedinternet.com, which advises consumers on internet connections. They used the FBI’s most recent crime data, plus STD rates from the Centers for Disease Control to make their rankings.

Pennsylvania? Middle-of-the-pack at 21st. But Delaware? Tenth from the bottom at 41st on the list.

Washington, D.C. came in dead last at 51st.

An analysis of data about crime and sexually transmitted diseases led Safewise and Highspeedinternet.com to create a ranking map for online dating safety. New Jersey is ranked as the 10th safest state. Pennsylvania just 21st.

While crime and disease data will not prevent prevent the liars, frauds and catfishing schemes which flourish on online dating sites, it is cautionary information when considering online dating, said analyst Kaz Weida.

Weida warned emphatically: "Don't date online in D.C."

He explained, "We found some obvious correlations in the data between rates of crime and the rate of STDs per capita in certain cities.”

There was “an extremely strong connection between the absence of a sex education program and that state's percentage of STDs,” he added.

The top five safest states were Vermont, Maine, New Hampshire, Utah and Idaho.

The top five least safe states were Washington, D.C., Alaska, Louisiana, New Mexico and Nevada.
