The Playoffs of Matchmaking

This week kicks off what I like to call the "Playoffs of Matchmaking". For all intents and purposes Thanksgiving is the first holiday of the Holiday Season where family and friends gather around a dinner table and usually start asking, "So are you seeing anyone?"

Then its a mad dash to Christmas (whether you celebrate it or not) because its generally another time for family and friends to gather around a dinner table again (whether you celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa or none of the above). That's when you get that annoying follow up question, "You still haven't met someone?" As if your ideal match would've somehow magically appeared in a month when its eluded you for this long.

New Years Eve is like the conference championships. Perhaps you found a great date, but maybe they're not "The One" and you wake up the next day with a New Year's Resolution. "This will be the year I meet my match!"

Studies show that dating apps experience a surge in popularity on New Year's Day, but that doesn't mean that the pool of individuals has changed.

Then comes Valentine's Day, or what I like to consider, "The Superbowl of Matchmaking". This is typically a make or break moment for new or old couples. Depending on the experience itself and the outcome of the evening you can either say to yourself, "I've met The One." Or, "This definitely isn't The One."
